A SHORT INTRO
Artist | visionary | storyteller
I'm Amy Joy Alvarado,
a Maya-Latina-Canadian Artist.
I was born in the highlands of Guatemala, and grew up in Canada.
I picked up my first camera at 14 years old. And haven't put it down since.
Photography isn't just my job or a hobby, it's my practice and my source of connection to nature.
My vision is to inspire artists (YOU) to embrace your own nature and see art as a means of connection and authentic expression.
FULL BIO
Amy Joy Alvarado is a Maya-Latina-Canadian artist, photographer, and storyteller from the highlands of Guatemala. Her bold, expressive style is deeply influenced by the colors, landscapes, and stories of her Mayan heritage, threads that weave through every piece she creates.
At fourteen, she picked up her first camera, sparking a lifelong devotion to creative exploration. She later studied Media Arts at LaSalle College, developing her skills in photography, graphic design, and creative direction. Since 2012, Amy has led her own creative studio, collaborating across disciplines and with global partners including NatGeo North, Google Canada, and Gooten Images.
In 2025, Amy returned to Guatemala, where exploring rural communities deepened her artistic vision. Immersed in the landscapes and traditions that shaped her ancestors, Amy reconnected with the Mayan philosophies of harmony with the earth, the pulse that now anchors her art.
Her Back to Nature Art series embodies this reconnection. Each piece is an invocation of Eutierria, a sense of oneness with the land. A portion of her work supports reforestation efforts in Guatemala, a gesture of gratitude to the lands that continue to inspire her.
Today, Amy works full-time as an artist and visionary, inviting others to see creativity not merely as expression, but as a return — to nature, to truth, to self.
Thank you, gracias, maltiox for joining me on this journey.
As always, my art is offered in reverence to nature.
May we all return to her.
